A proactive approach.

A proactive approach.

In Canada, “over 75 % of what the construction industry generates as waste has a residual value, and therefore could be recycled, salvaged and/or reused.” - (Yeheyis, 2012). Environmental impact should be considered and proactively planned for by construction companies prior to breaking ground. It’s extremely important to have an internal Environmental Construction Operation Plan (ECO), if the job does not have one already implemented.

Professional Excavators and Construction considers environmental protection to be an important and integral part of conducting business. Our environmental policy ensures that all employees are aware of their responsibilities and roles in protecting the environments that we work in. Anything and everything that can be recycled, salvaged, or reused is.

Before any job starts, our project management team alongside our HSE personnel develop an ECO plan making sure to:

  • Minimize hazards to public health.
  • Protect the environment from adverse effects of construction operations.
  • Comply with all legislated standards and regulations.
  • Assess potential environmental risks.
  • Evaluate and monitor environmental performance to applicable standards.
  • Work with industry, government, and workers to maintain environmental awareness.
  • Maintain an effective reporting system.

At PECI we also look for further ways to reduce our impact on the environment. If there are viable trees that need to be removed, we evaluate how they can be removed without damage and where we can replant them. If structures (mainly playgrounds) are being removed to make way for something new, we work to remove it in a way that keeps its integrity and extend its life by donating it.

When we reduce environmental energy, or social impacts in our day-to-day business it benefits not only our company and employees but also our clients and community. We are aware that managing resources and using a proactive approach to protect the environment will ensure the long-term viability and integrity of the business and the community we are helping build.
