Is profit planning really working for farmers?

In our recent survey at the Central Districts Field Days, we asked farmers how actively they were planning to make a profit each year.

58% said they were actively planning to do so. Fantastic! But 42% were either not actively planning to make a profit or aren’t planning at all!

So, with just under half of our farmers not focusing on profit, that’s not good news!

Now, in my last blog I revealed what farmers 3 biggest challenges were:

1.      Financial

2.      Farm operations, and

3.      Business planning

Over half of our farmers are actively planning to make a profit, BUT financial challenges are the biggest issue. On top of that, farm profitability is still very poor. Something isn’t working!

What can we draw from this?

The intent and actions of many farmers are just not delivering results! Why?

Perhaps the way farmers plan for profit are not actually geared towards profitable results. Perhaps the actions taken are not actually profitable ones. Maybe the assumptions and thinking about profit, are not accurate, therefore it doesn’t matter what actions and methods are used, the results won’t come anyway. I wonder if most farmers think they understand profit, but really don’t when it comes down to it. I’m not putting farmers down - they’re all working hard to get somewhere.

I believe all of these ideas play a part, and to move forward we have to confront these brutal facts, whether we like it or not.

Now, farmers CAN do what it takes to get the results they really want, if they choose to. But it does take a structured process over time, commitment and focused action. If you want the results but are not prepared to do what it takes, then its pretty clear where your main priorities truly lie.

At Growfarm® we provide the tools and support to help S & B farmers take control of their businesses and unlock their potential. That potential involves spare cash, taking care of their families, setting up their futures and feeling great about what they are doing and where they are going.

So, if you are serious about getting on and creating some results you can be proud of, get in touch through our website. We look forward to speaking with you soon!
