(not) Pursuing the MIND’S WHISPERS

(not) Pursuing the MIND’S WHISPERS

Fueled by the whispers of the subconscious, our minds crave attention.

When we embrace the present moment, we starve their hunger.

Our thoughts are trained to be expert distractions.

By chasing after them, or resisting them, we unwittingly amplify their frequency.

As a result, our mind becomes small and contracted,

creating a never ending loop to feed from.

To engage in a thought

is to vote for the kind of mental landscape we want to live in.

Through training ourselves to see and notice thoughts,

we cultivate the capacity to let go of the relentless chase.

A quiet confidence, more freedom, and creativity will follow.

“Freedom is not given to us by anyone; we have to cultivate it ourselves. It is a daily practice.” ― Thich Nhat Hanh, Peace Is Every Step: The Path of Mindfulness in Everyday Life
