Questions to Ask in Interviews

Questions to Ask in Interviews

I always say to my candidates that interviews are a two-way street, not only is the interviewer interviewing you for the role, but you are also interviewing them and assessing whether the role, the work and organization is the right opportunity for you.

During and at the end of the interview, it is important to ask questions to help you learn more about the company culture, more about the responsibilities of the role and metrics for success in the role and at the company.

Along with helping you decide if it's the right job for you, asking insightful questions can show an employer your enthusiasm for the position. Not so fun fact, I had one employer reject the most perfect candidate for their role because they did not ask any questions at the end of the questions. So always have at least three questions that you have prepared, to ask at the end of the interview.

Below are some questions that you may like to ask in an interview.

  1. What is the company culture like here?
  2. What’s your favorite part of working here?
  3. What advice would you give a new employee working here?
  4. What does the ideal candidate for this role look like?
  5. What changes or innovations in the industry are you most excited about?
  6. Do you have a mentor system in place?

  14. Can you tell me about the company’s plan for growth?
  15. Can you tell me more about the team dynamics?
  16. What are the methods and expectations of communication between team members? (This is a good question to suss out whether the company has an open-door policy.)
  17. How are successes & milestones celebrated by the team and the company?
  18. What do you think the biggest challenges would be for some-one starting in the team?
  19. If I were to join the team, what would I find most surprising?
