A Look at Quincy’s History

Like many new England cities, Quincy has a long and rich history. It was first inhabited by Native American tribes, and then by those who came over from England before the American Revolution. It was named Quincy after Colonel John Quincy, the great-grandfather of President John Quincy Adams. For many years, Quincy was known for being an important hub of the shipbuilding industry, eventually diversifying to become an essential hub of commerce and industry in many ways.   • Both Dunkin’ Donuts and the Howard Johnson Motel chain were first founded in Quincy.
  • Quincy began holding a Flag Day parade in 1952 and continues that tradition to this day. It is believed by many to be the longest-running Flag Day parade in the country.
  • John Hancock, one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence, was also originally from Quincy.

The promenade offers stunning views of the Boston skyline, and it’s a great place to relax and enjoy the sun, sea, and sand.

Tony's Clam Shop

Tony’s Clam Shop is a Quincy classic. It has been in business since 1964 and is located right on the ocean. It’s well known for its excellent lobster roll, although the entire menu is great. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy a meal here for yourself!

Located just a short trip from Quincy in Boston’s South End, Club Café has been a staple of Boston nightlife since 1982. Many consider it the city’s top spot for dancing on the weekends.
