Randolph Alles named 25th Director of the United States Secret Service
I am proud to congratulate Randolph Alles on his appointment as the Director of the United States Secret Service. Director Alles is the 25th Director of the United States Secret Service and is the first Director appointed who has not previously served as a Special Agent within the ranks of the organization.
The leadership of the Secret Service started in 1865 with the appointment of Chief William Wood, then part of the Department of the Treasury, as the first to head the agency that was originally formed by President Lincoln to combat the rise in counterfeit currency.
For more than 150 years, the Secret Service has grown to be one of the most well respected law enforcement agencies in the world.
Director Alles will lead a unique agency that is is mandated by Congress to carry out the duel integrated missions of protection and criminal investigations. Director Alles faces an agency that has had widely publicized challenges over the past few years; however, his 35 years of military command and law enforcement leadership will allow for the Service to start a new and successful chapter in it's history.
Congratulations to Director Alles and to the women and men of the United States Secret Service.
