Ready for a Road Trip, Colorado?
This is the article I have been waiting years to write. I wish I were tech-savvy enough to insert a drum roll into this week’s edition. So…here’s the drum roll…
Roadtrip Nation, a mission driven non-profit organization focused on storytelling and education, is launching a Colorado Road Trip. With the support of the Daniels Fund , Wend Collective and Strada Education Foundation , Roadtrip Nation will be sending three Colorado young adults on a free journey across the state in search of exciting new career opportunities. Along the way, these learners will talk with inspiring professionals in health care, the skilled trades, STEM, agriculture, natural resources and energy and other fields to get the advice they need to carve out their own paths in the Centennial State. Filmed for the “Roadtrip Nation” public television series, this experience will showcase the stories of people who have built unique careers suited to their own interests and talents. All travel expenses will be covered (plus a daily stipend for personal expenses) and the road trip will be filmed – and the resulting documentary may be shown on public television!
Do you have learners in your network who would benefit from this experience? Please share the application link (here) and encourage young people in your network to apply by October 16.
And a road trip of a slightly different type: the state’s first educational equity officer, Dr. Roberto Montoya, PhD has hit the road to connect with leaders and learners at many of Colorado’s Hispanic-serving institutions this month. While there are 13 higher education institutions in the state that are designated as an HSI, Dr. Montoya will initially make stops at Colorado State University Pueblo , Metropolitan State University of Denver and Adams State University with more visits to come in the months ahead.
If you want to hear more from Dr. Montoya - both about the state’s commitment to equity and all learners, but also how Colorado is supporting students across all credentials and programs, consider joining us for the fourth annual national Dual Mission Summit in Glenwood Springs from November 2 - 4. Postsecondary education leaders from across the country will join with policymakers and national and regional foundations to talk about the momentum behind the dual mission model for higher education. Read more about the dual mission model in my interview with Colorado Mountain College President, Dr. Carrie Besnette Hauser , in Forbes . And, register here for this year’s summit. We would enjoy seeing you in-person this fall!
Finally, I know many of our readers will be joining the Career-Connected Education – A Colorado Pathways Conference tomorrow and Friday in Denver. I would love to see many of you and say an in-person “hello.” Please drop me a line and let’s connect. The act of connecting ideas, but also connecting colleagues is always exciting and I would welcome the chance to say hello to some of our consistent readers!

Spotlight on Colorado Education and Workforce
Last week we highlighted week one of Colorado’s Workforce Development Month activities, focused on workforce services. In week two, we highlight how the state is advancing Colorado’s economic recovery. We all know that the pandemic has been difficult for every Coloradan - whether employed or unemployed, raising a family or living alone, pursuing postsecondary education or aspiring to do so. There are resources available to both employers and job seekers as the state works to powerfully emerge from the tumult of the last two years. In fact, employers can find the talent they need – and job seekers can find opportunities that are available in the state – through ConnectingColorado, My Colorado Journey, and COResponds – all sites that provide support and guidance just for Coloradans.
Next week, we will highlight week three and focus on the Future of Work and what the data is telling us about where the jobs may be in the years to come.
