Recharging, Reimagining, and Redefining Health: A Journey into Holistic Wellness.

Recharging, Reimagining, and Redefining Health: A Journey into Holistic Wellness.

Most people don’t realize how important rest and relaxation are to your health. As busy entrepreneurs, A-type personalities, and leaders, we tend to go, go, go without any thought about recharging our batteries.

I recently had the opportunity to recharge my battery during a family vacation to Florence and Venice. With the beauty and history of these two cities, it was almost impossible not to take stock of my own life and my health without the hustle and bustle of running a busy clinic and a surgical practice.

Two years ago, I would never have imagined this shift. At the time, I had a thriving practice, not pushing myself. I thought I was at the peak of my career, but as I analyzed the patients who were coming through my door, I realized I could help them a lot more if I had seen them a lot earlier. That was when I became increasingly interested in a more holistic approach to medicine and health—that surgery should be avoided if at all possible. This shift has led me to embrace a more integrative approach to health, focusing on treating the whole person rather than just addressing isolated symptoms.

The Importance of Holistic Health

As a physician who has spent my professional career performing surgeries and working within the traditional medical system, I've come to realize how crucial it is to look beyond the conventional methods. Western medicine often focuses on treating specific conditions. However, the human body is complex, with millions of processes happening simultaneously. To truly help people, we need to consider the body as a whole.

This realization has made me a better physician. Over the past two years, I've immersed myself in studying integrative health, preventative medicine, and holistic practices. This knowledge has allowed me to offer my patients a more comprehensive approach to their well-being, focusing on non-invasive treatments and lifestyle changes that promote long-term health.

This Month Featured Diagnostic Tool

One of the tools I've become particularly passionate about is the REMS (Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry) bone scan. This revolutionary technology, which originated in Italy, offers significant advantages over traditional DEXA scans for assessing bone health. Not only is it portable and radiation-free, but it also provides a more detailed picture of bone quality through the bone fragility index. Early detection of issues like osteoporosis is critical, especially in women, who often don't realize they have a problem until it's too late.

Taking proactive steps to maintain your bone health is essential, especially as you age or if you're at risk for conditions like osteoporosis. One of the most effective ways to do this is by getting a REMS bone scan. This advanced technology offers a comprehensive assessment of your bone health and gives you a clearer picture of your bone quality and potential fracture risk, which allows for more effective and targeted interventions.

In addition to early screening, incorporating resistance exercise into your routine is crucial. Activities like weightlifting or using resistance bands are beneficial for building muscle and play a vital role in strengthening bones and enhancing overall bone density.

In addition, using Pulsed Electromagnetic Frequency (PEMF) therapy is another innovative approach to supporting bone health. PEMF therapy involves the use of electromagnetic fields to stimulate bone growth and repair. Research shows it’s effective in enhancing bone density and is a valuable adjunct to more traditional treatments. This non-invasive therapy can be particularly beneficial for those who are looking to avoid medication or surgical interventions.

Embracing Change and Sharing Knowledge

The journey I have been on has inspired me to share what I've learned with a broader audience. Through my podcast, Social media, newsletter, and LinkedIn, I aim to reach not just my patients but also my colleagues and the general public. My goal is to help others understand the importance of holistic health and to encourage them to take proactive steps toward their well-being.

It's not always easy to communicate complex ideas in bite-sized pieces, especially when you're passionate about a topic, but hopefully, I have inspired you to do more research and take charge of your own health.

On my podcast, over the past few months, I’ve had the privilege of hosting some of the leading voices in various fields, from integrative medicine to advanced therapeutic techniques. As we look ahead, we're excited to continue bringing you thought-provoking conversations that challenge conventional thinking and inspire positive change.

We'll delve deeper into the world of photobiomodulation with Dr. Michael Hamlin, a pioneer in the field who has contributed to over 1,500 articles and 60 textbooks. Dr. Hamlin's expertise in light therapy is unmatched, and his insights will shed light on how this cutting-edge treatment can be used to improve health outcomes, particularly in brain health and recovery.

We’ll also featured Dr. Candice Holmes, an expert in neurofeedback who has been at the forefront of helping individuals with brain conditions recover through innovative techniques. Her approach combines neurofeedback with photobiomodulation, creating a powerful synergy that offers hope to those struggling with neurological issues. This episode is particularly exciting for anyone interested in the intersection of technology and therapy in mental health care.

And last, but not least, we have Dr. Khristy Prouse, an OB-GYN who experienced her own transformation from a traditional medical practitioner to a holistic health advocate. After overcoming Adrenal Fatigue Syndrome herself, Dr. Proust shifted her focus to integrative care, co-founding the Institute for Hormonal Health in Canada. Her journey is a testament to the power of holistic approaches in modern medicine, and her insights will be invaluable for anyone interested in total person care.

As the podcast grows, we're committed to expanding our reach, bringing in more diverse voices and exploring new topics that resonate with our audience.
