One of the best ways to create videos is to create videos.

  1. Be yourself
  2. Have a point
  3. Clearly communicate that point

There are a few different styles of video shooting. For the most part, you will always want to use your phone in a

HORIZONTAL grip or HORIZONTALLY on a stand

ALWAYS PLUG IT IN OR HAVE A FULL CHARGE. A DYING BATTERY KILLS ANY PHOTO SHOOT!!! 😜

Set the resolution to 1080 (4K is not really essential and does take up a lot more space.. Only use for a large and quality essential project)

Frame set.

Ensure you have yourself either centered in the frame or to the left or right of the frame. By standing left or right of the frame, you allow

For the editing of images and slides to be used later in your edit and production time.

You can use 60fps (Frames per second and no lower than 30) This rate helps if you choose to do a part of your film capture in slow motion and helps the clarity of this process to not look real grainy and choppy.

Lighting is essential. You want to be brighter than normal in your shot inside and then you can edit color afterwards if necessary. The more light, the clearer the picture.

If you are experiencing a grainy film and it just gets worse when you try to edit it, you did not have enough light.

Obviously an outdoor shot on a sunny day is best on a smartphone ensuring the direct light is a good balance where you are standing. You can easily do a 10-second test run to see how it looks and sounds.

Sound is another issue altogether. For the most part, the internal mics are pretty good quality, especially inside and at close range, however, an additional microphone can be purchased starting at about $50 and up that will greatly enhance the quality of your sound. The iPhone will require an iPhone ready mic or adapter to work if not using the standard 3.5mm mic plug.

Many people ask me what I use to shoot or edit. The truth is, I use many different software tools, but for the sake of this tip of the day, I will share a few great options that are inexpensive and will save you a lot of edit time and production!! I have zero affiliation with these companies and brands, this is just a list of items that I have in my toolbox and use regularly:

  1. InShot Pro Version
  2. Filmmaker Pro
  3. Kapwing -A FANTASTIC NEW SOFTWARE YOU MUST USE!
  4. Clips - Only available in the Apple Store
  5. Headliner.app
  6. Canva
  7. Canva Stories
