Red All About It!

Welcome from the MD: Last month has flown by, I can't believe it’s nearly Christmas already and it also feels very strange that we are in the middle of a (controversial) World Cup in Qatar at this time of year! Commiserations to Wales and good luck to England in the Quarter Final against France on Saturday! I love the knockout stages of tournament football although I’m not sure my nerves will be able to cope. From a Red perspective it has been a very busy month, continuing to partner with our amazing clients and candidates, with another successful quarter under our belt! We had a few opportunities to let our hair down this month too, with the Scottish Shipowners Benevolent Association charity dinner and the REC Awards, it has been so nice to get out to these events again post- COVID, nothing beats networking face-to-face and building lasting relationships with people in person. I hope you enjoy this month’s newsletter and have a lovely relaxing Christmas and New Year when it comes.

Scottish Ship Owners Dinner: The Marine Team had a great night at the SSBA Dinner 2022 at the Crowne Plaza in Glasgow at the beginning of the month. We are delighted to support The Scottish Shipowners Benevolent Association (SSBA), it is a fantastic charity that supports many people who have, at some point in their lives, been unable to support themselves or their families in times of need, whether through death, illness, redundancy, financial hardship. The SSBA provides individuals with hardship funding for such things as paying winter fuel bills and buying basic food supplies, so important at this time of year.

REC Awards 2022: We had such a fantastic time at the Recruitment & Employment Confederation Awards in London last week! We didn't bring the trophy home, but it was so amazing to be shortlisted for the "Best Company to Work For" Award. It was also great getting the chance to meet recruiters from up and down the country, reflect on highs and lows from the past year of recruitment, and let our hair down a little and celebrate being shortlisted! We’re so proud of the team at Red and the culture we foster here – here’s to another great year! 😊

Key Blog Takeaways: Recruiting over the festive period brings its own unique challenges – with Christmas tending to see a slowing down when it comes to hiring, but don't see that as a means to coast through until January! No! Utilise this time in the best way you can.

Some key tips to ensure that you’re fully prepared for that fresh wave of talent and candidates seeking new jobs come January would be: Work on Branding (invest wisely into the specific channels that will benefit your recruiting); Spot the Trends; Set new Recruitment Goals; Revise your Job Descriptions – can these be updated, refreshed, tweaked, and improved? And lastly…reflect on the past year, give yourselves and your colleagues a pat on the back, and celebrate with a Christmas treat or two! Click to read the full blog yourself 🎄🎄🎄

News from the Recruitment World: Another major U-turn – IR35 is here to stay! At the end of October, the new Chancellor announced huge changes concerning a number of tax measures previously announced in the mini budget, including reversing plans to get rid of the off payroll working rules as of April 2023. For recruiters, this presents a number of challenges. As Neil Carberry, REC CEO, puts it: “There are no quick fixes. As we said last month, it is not enough to tear things down – we need to take time to build. Just as scrapping changes on IR35 did not solve the problem of a complex and poorly enforced system, keeping them will not make these issues go away either.” Click for a useful article by the REC on which clients these rules apply to, how recruiters should proceed, and how the REC can offer help.

Wimborne Town FC

And finally...did you know that we are the proud sponsors of Wimborne Town FC, a grassroots girl’s football team based in Dorset? This season we have sponsored both the kit bags and training tops (modelled here by some of the team themselves) and have loved watching them go from strength to strength – most recently they had a great result against Oxfordshire Elites U16 Girls…winning 4-2 with an awesome performance for the entire team. Keep up the good work girls!

Fun fact - our MD Matt was a WTFC youth player himself many moons ago and also has personal links to the team!
