Rediscovering the Power of Play
Sailing is my go-to stress reliever!
So this photo is from a recent sail out on my Cal 2-30 with a great crew for good times. I was out with great friends of mine (we call ourselves 'Girls of Summer" from our Nantucket trips) whom I've known for 27 years! How grateful I am I to have enjoyed the beautiful weather on the ocean with them!
Playtime can be a powerful tool for reducing stress and promoting overall well-being. Here are three ways in which playtime can help you to alleviate stress:
1. Release of Endorphins: Engaging in playful activities, whether physical or mental, triggers the release of endorphins, you know, the body's natural feel-good hormones. These endorphins act as natural painkillers and mood enhancers, helping to reduce stress and promote a sense of happiness and relaxation.
2. Distraction and Relaxation: Playtime allows you to take a break from the stressors and challenges of daily life. It serves as a distraction from your worries and helps you shift your focus to enjoyable and entertaining activities. This shift in attention can provide a much-needed mental break, leading to reduced stress levels.

3. Enhanced Creativity: Playtime often involves creative and imaginative activities. Engaging your creative side can be therapeutic and can help you process emotions and stressors in a non-linear way. This can lead to a sense of emotional release and relief.
