Reflection and Looking to the Future

Happy New Year and welcome to the first of our Habitat Talks for 2021! With the year well under way, we thought a retroactive look on learnings from 2020, and how this translates to meaningful takeaways for the future, would be a fitting way to kickoff our 2021 series. Today's Talk will be featuring Habitat's Vice President of Marketing and Communications, Maureen Vaughn.

2020 was full of many changes and learning moments. While I cannot call to mind one specific example, I think it’s safe to say that most people, myself included, did quite of bit of reflecting during the year. Many of us thought about what we value and prioritize and made changes that will carry over into 2021 and beyond. Specifically, I think during 2020, people’s relationships with family and friends became even more important as we all navigated these unprecedented times.

Additionally, for many of us, our focus shifted away from our personal needs and wants to focusing on how we can help others. We thought about how to help our local businesses and small restaurants weather this storm. We strengthened our relationships with team members through virtual get togethers, took walks with our significant other, and did our best to find moments to relax and recharge.

Overall, 2020 taught us a lot about resilience. Both in our personal lives and our professional lives, there were a lot of instances of finding new ways to do things and working towards making each day a little better than the last. The real test is how we harness that resilience in years to come. A large part of future planning is rooted in the lessons we’ve learned in the past, and I am hopeful that in 2021 we can tap into our resiliency to work towards learning from our reflections and innovating from those changes.
