Revision from July 2024 of the Easy Access Rules for Continuing Airworthiness
European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has just released the latest revision (July 2024 ) of the Easy Access Rules for Continuing Airworthiness. It is absolutely clear the relevance this document has for the entire maintenance training community, thus the changes it brings affects all of us.
This revision includes the implementation of more proportionate requirements for aircraft used for sport and recreational aviation (Regulation (EU) 2022/1360 and ED Decision 2023/013/R), and the requirements for the management of information security risks with a potential impact on aviation safety for organisations (Regulation (EU) 2023/203 and ED Decision 2023/010/R). Both are applicable from 22 February 2026.
But probably for the most of us the major topics of interest are those related the review of Part-66 and the introduction of new training methods and new teaching technologies (Regulation (EU) 2023/989, ED Decision 2023/019/R, and Corrigendum to ED Decision 2023/019/R). In accordance with EASA official site, the amendments were introduced to:
“
· facilitate the type rating endorsement of aircraft when there are no organisations approved in accordance with Part-147 offering type training on that aircraft, maintaining the same level of safety and a level playing field;
· update the basic knowledge training syllabus in Part-66;
· enhance the efficiency of the ‘on-the-job training’ (OJT) required for the first type rating endorsement in the maintenance licence category;
· enhance the efficiency of the maintenance personnel training system with new training methods and new teaching technologies;
· improve and correct the elements that emerged with the implementation of the CAW Regulation.
