SAP & Sustainable Development-A New Business Horizon

United Nations has established seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). These goals are a motivating effort to bring an end to poverty and hunger, to usher into an environment of equality for all, to protect our planet, and to make sure that a healthy, sustainable future is kept for future generations. The United Nations wants to accomplish these goals by 2030. Increasing consciousness of sustainability-related issues is changing how people view and prioritize the relationship between conservation and their individual material needs. However, a question lies in the fact if businesses can thrive in a continuous path unifying profitable growth and sustainability-related practices, causative to a better future for themselves and the world.

SAP’s Vision

SAP envisions to side with The United Nations and its idea of assisting the world to run better and then improve people’s lives. As a global leader, SAP is positioning sustainable development as a higher motive than even their economic success. Looking back at their sustainability journey, SAP reminisces its decade-long struggle. They have reinforced their pledge to use their all-embracing resources to leave an optimistic international impact.

SAP & Sustainable Development- New Business Horizon

SAP looks forward to understanding sustainable development as a major “business driver”. In an article dated September 29, 2021; Augusta Spinelli (EVP, Head of SAP Services (a.i.) and Head of SAP Services Intelligent Delivery Group),writes: “The definition of sustainability is extended to address how companies connect revenue to their value chain’s impact on climate change, social inequality, and chronic poverty”. She further states “The SAP Services and Support team and our strong ecosystem of partners play a distinct role in this evolution of our customers’ long-term vision.” To usher the world into a new world where sustainable development no longer remains a shallow concept, SAP, therefore, strives to aid our customers in transforming their business models with a futuristic viewpoint by architecting and positioning the right solution to meet each unique problems or issues. These unique challenges or issues include how sustainable their organizations should become. Spinelli says that this is achieved “by combining our deep expertise in SAP solutions, technologies, and business processes with each customer’s business opportunities, risks, and vision.”

Increasing Number of Partnerships to Accomplish the Global Goals

SAP has been working hard to manufacture and then become important, successful partnerships that addressing the world’s problems. Partnerships are at the heart of SAP’s work to generate impact and to achieve the Global Goals. For partnerships, they work in cooperation with customers, or business partners, or non-profits, or even global associations or governments and governmental entities. An article states, “In addition to the partnerships previously showcased, we seek to work with partners who address the broad spectrum of global challenges and the cross-sections of ESG impact (environmental, social, and governance).”


SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP)

With Sustainability in mind, SAP aims at leveraging technologies and practices within its own organizational structure to aid its customers. To do this, SAP has established SAP Business Technology Platform (SAP BTP). This technology aims at bringing together intellectual enterprise applications accompanied with the database as well as data management, integration, analytics, and extensible potentials into one platform for hybrid and cloud environments. The article states “It assists our customers — and us at SAP — to integrate and create value from their enterprise data and applications as they strive to achieve their goals within the context of an ever-changing business environment.”
