Senior Consortium Waukesha is a great resource
I had the opportunity to attend Senior Consortium Waukesha's meeting this morning, featuring Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Waukesha County. ADRC is a division of the Department of Health and Human Services and offers numerous programs and resources serving adults and their families with issues of aging and/or disability.
Their resource guide provides contact information about a plethora of services including abuse/neglect reporting, active adults, adult day services, emergency alert, end-of-life resources, family support, financial assistance, food/meals, health services, home health care, hospitals, housing, legal service, medical equipment, organ and tissue donation, LTC programs, transportation and more. You can reach them at 262-548-7848.
ADRC is partnering with UW-Madison on a test program called "Helping Older Adults Stay Independent." The research study is designed to see if technology can help senior adults continue to live independently.
The system offers both computer and community-centered support addressing key areas that may help older adults stay independent, covering topics such as: preventing falls, social isolation, loneliness, improving family and caregiver communication, medication and side effects awareness, access to transportation and driving information.
The study is free to adults 65 or over, living in their own home or apartment, and a resident of Waukesha County. For more information, contact Christa Glowacki, Waukesha County Study Coordinator at 262-548-7838 or cglowacki@waukeshacounty.gov.
I ran into two professionals from organizations that I personally benefited from for the care of my mother before she passed. A big thank you goes out to Miriam Oliensis-Torres from Stowell Associates, who provided in-home care management and advice, and to St. Camillus, a skilled nursing facility, who provided exceptional hospice care for my mother at the end of her life.
Thank you all for a great morning.
