The shortage of semiconductor production capacity may continue until 2023, and the foundry factories are throwing money to expand investment

According to juheng.com, since the beginning of this year, the demand for wafer foundry has exploded, and the production capacity is extremely short. In addition to wafer foundry, many semiconductor factories have also expanded their investment. For example, Intel will return to the wafer foundry industry, SK Hynix has also announced that it will expand its investment in wafer foundry business. While Taiwan manufacturer Li Jidian is converting part of its memory capacity into logic process, it will also expand its production capacity, It also plans to spend a lot of money to build a new factory.

Since the fourth quarter of last year, the shortage of semiconductors has officially exploded, from power management IC and drive IC to MCU, nandflash control chip, norflash, CIS, etc. There is a serious shortage of wafer foundry capacity, which has never been seen before. TSMC, the leader of wafer foundry, believes that the shortage of semiconductor production capacity may not be alleviated before 2023.

Sk Hynix also announced that it will expand related investment. It is reported that South Korea IC design plant hopes SK Hynix can provide wafer foundry services of the same level as TSMC to develop new technologies in many new fields. Hynix agrees with customers and decides to invest heavily in wafer foundry.
