Last week was the first week of #backtoschool for some countries, post-soviet, in particular. Find #smartbrandsid #2 devoted to this event.

Once upon a time, when I visited Magdeburg in the business trip, I found that under the name of our partner university - Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg – is covered whole city branding.

18500 students in the city with population 238,136. 7.8% - students. Otto-von-Guericke-Universität Magdeburg looks like the main area in the city. Otto-von-Guericke was the scientist born in Magdeburg 1602 and known by his experiment with air pressure and so-called even Magdeburger Halbkugeln (half balls). We could find these half balls all around the city, where you do not expect too. I did not match this experiment from secondary school before I visited Magdeburg. Souvenir products support the scientist name and his experiment too. As we well know Mozart kugeln, as Magdeburger kugeln are distributed. And special liqueur – Halb and Halb (Hald and Half). All set of illustrations use the story of Otto-von-Guericke experiment. This is how the city respects its hero/ resident and how this resident generate tourist and students flows for SMEs development in the city.
