Social Media and the Mineral Resource Mentality.

ASX Minerals Resources small-cap companies are finding it very hard to compete for capital funds. The reason is solely due to a downturn in the commodity market. It is because there are so many other alternatives. Investors are being presented with so many other alternatives. The onset of social media has now created a wave of opportunities to share your ideas.

This has brought about the issue of being left behind. ASX mineral explorers are not going out to compete in this space and are being left out. In my opinion, the traditional space of doing roadshows and thinking that a free lunch for a group of "potential" investors will get you the funding is now in the past.

A brochure or an IM that describes your project is no longer grabbing attention. Your competitors are using the suite of social media platforms to reach and influence investors appetite away from your topic.

Even those that are using social media, they are doing it the old way, not the way that our attention is seeking. Two guys sitting down rehashing the announcement is not exciting, it's not vibrant. People need to change their "old ways"

The struggle to get attention in the mineral exploration or mineral resources space in the small-cap arena is not due to a downturn in the market. It is due to the fact that the investor attention is being swayed to other sectors, to other investing needs by media.

There are so many creative people out there that are producing excellent content but not too many are in this mineral exploration/resource industry. People will say that this area of business is all about "who you know" and their skin in the game but that is only part of the game. Even those people need to tell a good story.

It is this storytelling technique that is being left behind. The person sitting in the library reading the latest release to a group of interested people in the local library is now being replaced by Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, SoundCloud, Spotify.....etc

Live video comments are appearing in these platforms in rapid rate because they work. Who would have thought the concept of 5 guys sitting on a panel talking about sports would be a success. We are a changing beast.

In conclusion, remember that the last time you went into the forest to collect your provisions, to hunt for your family, well, those things you gathered and hunted are no longer there in the forest. They have all moved to waterholes called Google, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, SnapChat, WeChat, WhatsApp, Quora, Medium....etc
