Solo Social Media: How to One Man Band

The game has officially changed in all industries. By and large, social media followings count for a LARGE part of possible employment and if you have the desire to be an influencer, then then it becomes an even larger part of the picture.

Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, YouTube....it can be daunting for anyone to keep up with everything. Getting content up on your social can be difficult, but is doable with a bit of planning. As someone who has always handled their own social, I have some quick tips to help you out if you're struggling to keep up.

1: Use pre-produced content, but give credit

Have you ever seen a meme that has been has been spread across various platforms? Use it. It may not be yours, but give YOUR take on it. Put YOUR caption or a funny story with it. Relate it back to a personal experience. But if you can, give credit where it's due. If you know it's not yours, don't fake the funk

2: Buy a portable tripod

I do a few YouTube videos and setting stuff on the floor to film gets tired after a while and quite frankly, reeks of unprofessionalism. Invest in something to hold your phone or camera. For myself, I do all of my filming on my Iphone 7, so I bought a tripod from Best Buy. You won't get the perfect all the time due to the tripod being stationary, but also understand that you don't have to beat yourself up over that. Work within the framework you have and flourish.

3: Be authentic

I won't spend a ton of time on this as more notable people have said it. But be yourself. Don't fake the funk. I'm not going to floss for you guys that I make a ton of money or that I'm popular (I don't and I'm not). People gravitate to who they can relate to and if you're not authentic and tell the truth, YOUR truth.....you won't win.

4: Create a social media calendar.

This is more to keep you organized than anything. Make particular days a blog post or a video. Stay on schedule as best you can.

5. If you film a vid, edit it the same day (and upload it if you can too)

I know how much effort it takes to film a video and edit it. Do your best to make it easy and use key clips so you don't have to do a ton of editing. If you end up with a lot of video, then obviously you'll have to spend more time on shit, but by and large, make it easy and get it on your video channel the same day

6: Post everywhere

Don't stay on one platform, this is explanatory. If we are told to diversify our portfolio, we should do the same for social.

7. Interact and have fun

This is social media folks and understand it can work in your favor. This is fun stuff! Find your niche, connect, follow and TALK!

By no means am I a social media guru, but I just observe things as a solo guy trying to do well on social media. So go forth and conquer!
