Source best tech talent

Source best tech talent

How do you solve a problem of 'sourcing best talent' for your company?

You create:

1. Tech communities

2. Talent pool

3. Platform for companies to look for the best talent fit

Propel an HR tech startup came up with this innovative solution.

They solved the problem within the problem.

Problem 1:

They realized that tech talent pool was missing.

Solution 1:

They came up with the idea of building tech-based communities. These communities would train thousands of people in tech annually.

Problem 2:

Communities are building the pool and upskilling resources. Now that resources have learned the skills, the next step was landing a job.

How would those people land the job that match the required skill set?

Solution 2:

Propel offered a consolidated platform that would serve three types of customers simultaneously.

What did Propel actually do?

It offered three types of platforms.

  1. Companies: Where they could hire the tech talent or activate a community for required talent development.
  2. Communities: Where people of Africa could join tech communities, learn the tech skills and land a job.
  3. Talent: Where people who had upskilled themselves in tech, joins the talent pool.

🎁Takeaways:

  1. When you try to solve a problem in an ecosystem, you go beyond and solve another connected problem. It solves your primary problem and helps you build an ecosystem around it. Today, you cannot only solve one problem and stay focused on that. Businesses are looking for opportunities both in vertical and horizontal segments. But the successful ones today are trying to claim more of their ecosystem.
  2. It is never a single problem. It is always a bunch of connected problems. Normally, startups pick one problem from haystack of problems and offer solutions. Yes, it is right approach. It works, until it does not. And startups always reach a limit at one point. That is where we see them fail. Why? They solved one problem, gained customers, raised initial funding and then that was it. They could not scale any higher or retain their customers or tap new target market or lost their competitive advantage because new competitor came into the market with more competitive solutions. Look beyond. Solve more problems.
