Spring Scents: Trending Fragrance Notes for 2024

With today’s spring equinox, it’s time to welcome warmer weather and encourage customers to find a signature scent to match the new season. Here are the top fragrance notes and creative combinations to stock up on for spring 2024.

Oud - a complex scent often dubbed liquid gold for its luxurious quality, aroma, and scarcity that has been used for centuries in the Middle East and ancient Asia. Oud is harvested from the Agar tree and is increasingly rare, with an incredibly unique combination of smoky, sweet, and spicy notes. While this scent can feel both nostalgic and unfamiliar, its allure is worth the expensive price tag. As its sharpness gives it an androgynous feel that makes it an  ideal base, Marie Claire predicts it will be one of the top scents this spring. Using it as a base not only increases the longevity of your fragrances but offers the opportunity to mix and match to make more feminine or masculine scents.

Pairs well with:

  • Jasmine - for a clean and fresh scent
  • Saffron - for a more masculine, earthy fragrance
  • Vanilla - for a more feminine scent that combines sweet and smoky

Strawberry - a sweet, fruity note with a bright, refreshing twist that can be reminiscent of youth and spring outings. While it can be surprisingly tricky to get strawberry scents right without edging into sickly-sweet, it’s a playful and energizing note that’s perfect for this time of year. There’s been a recent uptick in the availability of strawberry scents, so it’s a great time to offer customers this trending note.

Pairs well with:

  • Grapefruit - for a touch of citrus to lean into the fruity, refreshing notes
  • Jasmine - for added richness, giving a strawberry-shortcake kind of scent
  • Black Pepper - for a more masculine, spicy fragrance

Ginger - a warm, spicy scent with sharpness, depth, and sweet undertones that create a balanced profile. Similarly to Oud, ginger has a lengthy history in fragrance use and can create a more masculine or feminine scent depending on how it’s paired. Ginger embodies the cozy feeling of winter and energy of summer, making it a perfect transitional scent in line with spring’s sometimes unpredictable weather.

Pairs well with:

  • Pear - for brighter energy that balances well with crisp spiciness
  • Amber - for extra sweetness while retaining that unique ginger scent (since ginger is part of the amber family)
  • Basil - for a more neutral, slightly masculine scent that cuts some of ginger’s sharpness
