Statement from the Chairman of MOLLI Surgical, James C. Temerty
James C. Temerty is the Chairman of MOLLI Surgical. A renowned philanthropist committed to advancing the quality of healthcare, Jim was awarded the Order of Canada for his contributions to society. Following the recent approval of MOLLI™ – a wire free breast localization device –for use in North America, he issued the following statement:
On behalf of my wife, Louise, and our family, I am honoured to share that MOLLI™ – a new Canadian-based tool designed to localize breast cancer lesions – has been approved for use in North America by Health Canada and the FDA.
This groundbreaking new technology helps radiologists mark lesions quickly and accurately — and lets surgeons locate and remove lesions more efficiently. Our healthcare workers have sacrificed for our care and well-being, and as operating rooms now face a backlog of delayed procedures caused by the pandemic, we believe that MOLLI™ can help ease their burden, while improving patients’ experiences at the hospital. It is urgent that we remove this backlog, because a recent report showed that just a two-month stop in mammographic screenings resulted in an increase in node-positive and stage III breast cancer.
The provision of better healthcare has long been a deeply important issue to me and my family. When I first saw the prototype for MOLLI™ demonstrated at the Louise Temerty Breast Cancer Centre at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto, I immediately recognized its potential to change how we care for breast cancer patients. It has been my honour to help bring this technology to life and I look forward to seeing the impact it will have in peoples’ lives.
This has been an incredible journey – one which has only been made possible by the tremendous efforts of the team at MOLLI Surgical. I continue to be inspired by their dedication to improving breast cancer care and the experience of patients as they courageously face this disease. My deepest congratulations as they reach this milestone.
