Stop Technology Addiction

Stop Technology Addiction

A few days ago I received this present, and behind the funny joke, it made me think about my relationship with technology.

I don’t consider myself a tech addicted. Matter of fact, I’m surrounded by people who are hypnotised by their phone.

I have a couple of friends who can’t stop staring at their phone for more than 2 minutes. No joking.

I think I don’t consider my situation that bad cause I have plenty of worse cases around me. That's my way to minimise my problem.

In fact, I have a problem with technology. How do I know it?

I know it because at the moment I’m writing on my laptop with my phone on the table. I know it because I usually catch myself looking at the phone for no reason.

But technology isn't the real problem. Technology is the tool we use to create a distraction.

I love to be distracted. I systematically choose to avoid life that's happening, sometimes even if I’m enjoying the moment.

A few years ago I would have considered crazy looking at my phone while watching a movie I like. Right now I have to force me not doing it.

Technology is pretty handy to escape boredom/sadness/hanger. It reminds me of cigarettes...

So I started taking baths of reality more and more often. I started walking without listening to music. I started having lunches in public places without my phone around. I started taking showers without playing my favourite radio show.

Sometimes it’s frustrating to do this “routine” activities without a distraction, some other time is an enlighting experience. In general, I can say that getting back empty moments of my life makes me more focus on the rest of the time.

What about you? How’s your relationship with technology?
