Support for Secretary nominee Deb Haaland

As I am sure you all know today and tommorrow are the confirmation hearings for Nominee for Secretary of Interior Deb Haaland. Just within the last day it has come out that Senator Joe Manchin may not be on board and that is problematic for her confirmation as it was thought that there would be no Republicans supporting her nomination. Senator Manchin is a Democrat. His issue is that she is a supporter of the "Green New Deal" which he is adamantly opposed to. Coal industry is a big supporter of him and they are still very powerful in West Virginia. Needless to say since Deb Haaland is a very pro environmentalist she is not coal friendly.

The only other option for Secretary Haaland to get confirmed is if Senator Lisa Murkowski were to vote to confirm him. She gets a lot of financial support from oil and gas which is huge in Alaska. However, what most people don't know is she has a lot of support from the Native community in Alaska. She was even adopted into the Eagle Clan of the Tlinglit Nation. If you are not familiar with this ceremony once someone takes you on as a relative then there is a spiritual connection that is even stronger than a blood relationship. This will be an interesting test for Senator Murkowski as this will not be an easy decision. She is a principled person though and she did vote to impeach the previous president. Let us do all we can to encourage her to make the right decision for Indian country, the entire country and the world to help protect mother earth.
