A Surprising and Innovative Solution for Veterans

A Surprising and Innovative Solution for Veterans

Former Navy Seal Eric Greitens was visiting with veterans in Walter Reed Hospital where he directly witnessed men and women suffering from grave injuries. For many, their military career was over. He also believed that without some type of intervention, their service would be over as well.

Living a life of contribution, serving others and getting outside of ourselves represents the single most reliable way of healing a wounded psyche.

Eric began reaching out to veterans. He continued to offer his sympathy and support but he added a game changing step:

He talked many of them into taking new roles in community service.

His action changed the narrative. For many veterans, injuries and wounds represent the end of mission, vision and purpose.

The Mission Continues offers a win-win for veterans as well as our communities. These brave men and women are given renewed opportunities to serve and serving others is a dynamic they instantly recognize.

The results speak for themselves:

Franchon Ambrose grew up in an extraordinarily difficult home filled with violence and drug abuse. In many ways, the Army gave her a new life. But, when she left, she lost her sense of meaning and purpose.

She speaks eloquently in how The Mission Continues changed her life:

"The Mission Continues helped me push past my fears and dive into the realness of me."

Her fellowship with The Mission continues includes serving at the American Red Cross where she helps young people become engaged in community service as well.

She continues,

"At some point in our lives, we have all been told to suck it up and drive on. We have all had moments in our lives when we felt overwhelmed. But then we remember those titles - mom, dad, brother, sister, soldier - we remember what they mean, the responsibility we take on by donning those titles.

So on Mother's Day this year, I look back on what the title of 'mother' means to me. It means a lot, but above all, it reminds me to be a model of love and goodness for my children to follow. And in the moments when they think they can't do something, they'll remember my story and believe they can do anything."

Out of the seed that Eric Greitens planted, we find a thriving organization that deserves our support. I'm encouraging my readers to become aware of their work and to find ways to not only fund their mission but to engage with their clients.

Feedback about the December program and your facilitator, David Harder:

"For most of us, there are only a few people that we can say have truly changed our lives. David is one of these people for me. I was introduced to David by a colleague and took the Inspired Work program. It was transformational. His approach and philosophy get to the heart of why we work and why we are here. I can't recommend him or the program highly enough. I have continued a lively, enjoyable, and fruitful professional association with David and he continues to add incredible value to my business and my professional development. He is a true professional partner, thinking how to make the whole greater than the sum of the parts, always considering your best interests. I look forward to a long, productive, and enjoyable association with him."
