Germany’s Sovereign Tech Fund introduced a new program to fund maintainers of open source projects. Open source software is the backbone of our digital world and Germany's fellowship program is a welcome recognition of the crucial role that open source plays in driving innovation and economic growth.
This new law mandates all public bodies to release the source code of software developed by or for them unless third-party rights or security concerns prevent it. This approach aims to enhance government operations' transparency, security, and efficiency.
The White House is issuing recommendations not to restrict the use of open source AI models, based on a report from the Department of Commerce’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). It also recommends open models continue to be monitored for benefits and potential risks.
