Thoughts on Generative AI and its impact on the future!

As I read more and more about the world of Generative AI, I've been captivated not only by the technical aspects but also by the philosophical debates surrounding this fascinating field. There are always two sides to the story, and while we may not have definitive answers about the future, I'd like to share some compelling ideas that have sparked intriguing discussions within my circle of curious individuals.

1️⃣ Will AI take our jobs?

#AIInTheWorkplace #AutomationDebate

  • AI won't take your jobs, it's the people who leverage AI that will have a significant impact. And it's important to note that the ratio won't be a simple 1-1 correlation—it will be much higher.
  • Very interesting read here: This time it feels different

2️⃣ Throughout history, new technologies have often replaced jobs. What's different this time?

#TechnologicalAdvancement #FutureOfWork

  • While it's true that new technologies have historically displaced jobs, this time the scale of impact is unprecedented as it extends to White Collar Jobs. This demographic actively shapes media narratives, leading to heightened attention and concerns.
  • Unlike previous technologies that aimed to optimize human output, Generative AI challenges human thoughts and cognitive abilities. Humans are inherently limited by storage capacity, processing speed, and the inevitability of mortality. In contrast, machines possess infinite storage, rapid processing, and the potential to outperform humans in key areas such as judgment (eventually)
  • The rapid rate of change with Generative AI, driven by its accessibility and natural language capabilities, contributes to the fear surrounding its adoption. Solutions and applications are evolving faster than ever, surpassing the pace of earlier technologies like the internet, mobiles, and cloud computing.

3️⃣ Why are we even thinking of superintelligent machines? Is there a risk to humanity?

#EthicsOfAI #HumanityVsTechnology

  • If humans possessed the ability to process and store vast amounts of information, would we question or impede that progress? The concern lies not in the technology itself, but in our inability to regulate our own actions effectively.
  • A valid counterargument highlights the absence of emotions and self-preservation instincts in machines, potentially making them more dangerous. Strict control and regulation are essential to avoid potential harm. For a thought-provoking read on this topic, check out this article: AI Doom

4️⃣ What new roles and categories will emerge?

#FutureJobs #CreativeProfessions

  • Offline events and experiences will gain significance, offering unique value not easily replicated by AI. #OfflineExperiences
  • Creative individuals who can generate effective prompts will thrive, as mere high-level knowledge will no longer suffice. The ability to provide precise instructions to AI models will become a sought-after skill. #CreativityMatters

5️⃣ Natural language as the new API and the shift towards software as content.

#NaturalLanguageProcessing #FutureOfSoftware

  • Software will become content, and natural language will be the interface of choice. Your experience, creativity, and refined taste will be your key advantages, as technology to materialize ideas will become accessible to all

6️⃣ Can we control Generative AI?

#RegulatingTechnology #HardwareAsSolution

  • Current software is open source, making it challenging to control or regulate. Regulations alone may not suffice.
  • Controlling the hardware infrastructure presents a potential. By managing the underlying computational capabilities, we can shape the impact and limitations of Generative AI.

Let's engage in constructive discussions on the future of Generative AI.

As you mentioned, over time new technologies always “displaced” jobs rather than “replace” them. A basic example: 2 decades ago, payslips were generated manually now its system generated. I may not be entirely true but loss of jobs generally occur if we dont upskill ourselves on individual level w.r.t technological advancements. Saying that, if AI is replacing jobs then they are also opening the world to new set of problem statements to solve as well and at the same time leveraging the menial work to the softwares or any other thing per say like AI. So i guess jobs will be there in one form or other , question is may be how many skilled engineers we will be having.
