The three pillars: Genuineness, Acceptance and Empathy

A few months ago, I was asked by a peer- "Do you believe that the perfect company culture exists?."

My answer was no. No- the grass isn’t greener elsewhere. I’m a big believer that no matter what environment you are in- you can make the most out of it and learn from those experiences.

As a People person, I believe that when a contributor joins a company- it is our role to enhance the potentials and talents that this individual has and hasn’t yet fully explored. A company’s responsibility isn’t to make people happy but it’s their mission is to help one find their voice.

Perfect companies don’t exist- but it’s okay, we are all learning. Looking back or looking forth isn’t always helpful, being present and in tune with our abilities to change an environment are key.

Three Words: Genuineness, Acceptance and Empathy.

Those are more than words they are principles that everyone and every company should live by. Nothing great can be achieved without caring for the environments we create.

A person can only “grow” if they are provided with an environment that offers Openness, Unconditional Positive Regard and Being Heard and Understood.

Without these elements, our relationships won’t be able to blossom and grow the best way they can. Like the tree who doesn’t grow without the sunlight and water.

Human beings have to believe in their ability to expand and grow from each experience they encounter. As Carl Rogers said, humans have one basic motive, that is the tendency to self-actualize- to fulfill one’s potential and achieve the highest level of “human-beingness” we can.

Companies are not led by machines but led by human beings- like flowers that will grow to its full potential if the conditions are right, but which is dependent by its environment, so people will flourish and reach their full potential if their environment is good enough.

We all have an impact on the environments we interact with, we all can make a difference and choose to stand by principles that will help us grow and ultimately, enable others to change too.

In my early professional years, I was asking the question: How can I treat, or cure, or change this person? Now I would phrase the question in this way: How can I provide a relationship which this person may use for his own personal growth?”- Carl Rogers
