TUESDAY
Tiananmen anniversary
Tuesday marks the 35th anniversary of the deadly June 4, 1989, crackdown on protesters near Beijing's Tiananmen Square. Hong Kong is expected to keep a tight lid on memorials that were once an annual tradition, as sweeping security legislation imposed in the city has forced organizers to disband, sent dissidents to jail and prompted many citizens to steer clear of sensitive political issues. But significant commemorations are still expected in Taiwan and other parts of the world.
Indian election results
India announces the results of its six-week election as Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) look to better their majority in the lower house of parliament. In the 2019 contest, the BJP and its allies won 353 of the 543 seats. An even stronger showing this time around is likely to further lift equity markets on bets for more growth-boosting economic policies, analysts say.
Tech conference in Taipei
Computex 2024, one of the tech industry's biggest events, kicks off in Taipei. Headline participants include Nvidia Chief Executive Jensen Huang, AMD CEO Lisa Su and Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger. Artificial intelligence will be the main theme of the four-day event, which is expected to draw tens of thousands of visitors from around the world. Other topics include advanced connectivity, mobility, virtual reality and sustainability.
U.S. defense chief in Cambodia
U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin heads to Cambodia in a bid to sway the Southeast Asian nation closer to Washington's interests. Austin will meet with senior Cambodian officials, as Phnom Penh moves closer to Beijing -- underscored by a reported expansion of a naval base being constructed by China. Before his trip to the Cambodian capital, Austin made a stop in Singapore for the Shangri-La Dialogue, a key security conference .

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo will be in Singapore as the city-state hosts the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) Ministerial meeting. The America-led economic engagement effort with Asia, which has 14 members but excludes China, will see trade officials checking regional progress on cooperation in areas like clean energy, decarbonization and supply chain resilience.
FRIDAY
China trade figures
China announces monthly import and export data, providing a fresh indication of how its much-criticized industrial "overcapacity" and sluggish consumption are affecting the trade balance in the world's number-two economy.
Samsung workers on strike
Samsung Electronics' biggest union will stage a one-day walkout, pressuring management to accept its wage demands. The National Samsung Electronic Union said that its 28,000 members work in a wide range of divisions at the company, including memory and foundry semiconductor factories. But both the labor group and the company say the move will have only a limited impact on production and supply at the world's biggest maker of memory chips.
