Time Off for Busy Brain.

Time Off for Busy Brain.

I took a mini vacation away on my Bday. And, voila ! I am back to grind without having much issues at my work and routine life.  It took me 48 hours to actually disconnect and relax. But, the last day of stay was clearly worth living and absorbing the maximum out of the vacation.

I could remove myself from thoughts of work and post return my they started flowing-in much faster and clear. Psychologically, our brain neurons want two things more, than anything else for long-term fulfilment: novelty and challenge. Vacations provide both.

A short vacation can be anything from a long weekend to a few days off in the middle of the workweek. This is how a short vacation proved to be beneficial.

Here I am sharing three tips on choosing the duration of vacation and how to make the most of it.

  1. Take more frequent vacations to beautiful landscapes. - Switching your attention over nothing but a landscape boosts your productivity. Especially watching a flowing water such as waterfall, fountain, beach or swimming pool is a great stress buster and switches your brain to a relaxed mode.
  2. Short vacation is less stressful to plan. - Logistics are simpler when planning 3-4 day trip. It let's you be spontaneous, you reach your destination faster, no jet lag or long flights. Clearly, coming back to work post short vacation doest lets you come back to mountain of work or emails.
  3. Money saving vacation. - Recession shouldn't deter you from work life balance. Also, in short trips you don't end up paying the hotel for multiple nights.
