Top 3 ways to share files in your team
Introduction
My team and I always had issues with "Where can I send you the files", "You can't via email since the file is more than 10MB", "Is this site safe to use?" and a myriad of other phrases that I am sure you hear about every day. In this article, I will tell you about three potential solutions to this reoccurring issue we all face on a day-to-day basis.
My top 3 pics to share files
There are so many solutions that I am going to cover the most common ones, most of us that work in SMB/Enterprise probably had to choose one of the two biggest providers Google or Microsoft, let's see my pics.
1. Google Drive
Google Drive is the document hosting/sharing solution that companies can access either with normal Gmail accounts or through GSuite (company management system that allows admins to set permissions and manage federated access), you get 15GB for free on personal accounts and 50GB per user on the GSuite basic plan. They offer a lot of sharing possibilities as well as connections to Zapier (by now you might have got to understand that I am madly in love with Zapier :-)), this allows for many automation to take place and to safely store data without thinking about it.
2. Microsoft OneDrive/Sharepoint
This is Microsoft's alternative to Google Drive and as said in the opening note above you might need to use this if your organization is already in the whole "Microsoft environment". I am not super familiar with this (our company chose Google as our provider). In any case, they provide similar features (yes also Zapier to my knowledge and a few google searches).
2. The trusty WeTransfer link
If you need to collaborate with someone outside of your company (print office, newspapers, etc...) it might be a good idea to send a WeTransfer link to them, it's free up to 20GB per single file and link. It probably isn't the smartest idea when transferring confidential information since email traffic is generally not encrypted and can, therefore, be read by people on your network if using a network snooper (it's more complicated than that but it's summarized to give you a basic understanding).
Conclusion
As technology advances and we start collaborating with more distant locations and have distributed teams around the globe it is important for companies to tackle the topic of file storing and sharing across teams to allow everyone access to critical data and to allow for greater productivity between teams and organizations.
