Top 5 Reasons You Should Be Using A Low-Code Development Platform

When we get engaged with a business partner, we often gain deep insights into their business processes and strategies.  It is very clear that most application development or IT teams are stretched beyond capacity by their business technology needs.

We often see teams who have dug in their heels with their current technology strategy and are working hard, but rapidly losing the competitive battle.  At a high level, everyone is wrestling with building things in house or outsourcing development. From my perspective of hundreds of application development projects, everyone should be doing both.

The dangers of leaning on either in-house or outsourced development too much is a discussion in itself, but for now here are our top five reasons your business should have a low-code development strategy in place:

  1. Build Applications Faster - When you choose a low-code development platform that has been built for your businesses domain, it will without a doubt speed up your ability to build applications and get ahead of your competition.  If you are still writing a lot of code to build or maintain an app, chances are you are already losing ground.
  2. Build Applications Cheaper - It is probably obvious that if you can build applications faster, then they are by nature cheaper, but a well-suited low-code platform has an additional money saving advantage.  It allows less technical people to get in on the development efforts. Using GUI or macro based design features enables a much broader audience to tweak your applications, and let’s be honest, that is the kind of work that drives you crazy anyway.
  3. Powerful Integration Out-Of-The-Box - Integration work can be nasty and hard to maintain, but it is the core of what drive real business efficiencies over time.  The best thing you can do is share the effort and cost with lots of other businesses, and that is exactly what you get with a low-code platform. Our platform integrates with over 150 leading cloud based business applications, something that no single development team could hope to build or maintain.
  4. Go Cloud And Mobile With Ease - Any good low-code development platform will make hosting your applications securely in the cloud and giving your business and clients the mobility they desire simple.  In almost every case, it is much easier to rebuild existing applications on an enabled platform than it is to try and change them to be cloud hosted or mobile ready. Moving to the cloud not only decreases costs, but will increase security and reliability in just about every case.
  5. Less Infrastructure Maintenance - Ever deal with a new operating system version breaking your apps?  Perhaps a new browser version requires a fire drill of application patches while the business function is down?  Similar to integrations, sharing the cost and responsibility of staying ahead of these maintenance issues with a broad user base means far fewer phone calls, texts, and emails from panicked employees or clients.

There are many more benefits to using a low-code platform.  Others may have good arguments for things like centralized management, IoT support, or even user experience.  Not all low-code platforms are the same.

Do your research and find one that has been built to solve specific business challenges that you are dealing with.  These platforms will often contain specialized components that go a long way in the success the application will experience in your stakeholders hands.
