Using photos of Persons with Disabilities: Inspiring or De-Humanizing?
Stella Young had many things to say about disability rights and 'inspiration porn'. If you have not watched any of her talks yet, here is a Ted Talk that you must watch! Ginny's Planet has played this talk in several workshops and it always has the intended impact!
This is how Ted.com describes her: "a comedian and journalist who happens to go about her day in a wheelchair — a fact that doesn't, she'd like to make clear, automatically turn her into a noble inspiration to all humanity. In this very funny talk, Young breaks down society's habit of turning disabled people into 'inspiration porn.'"
Stella passed away in Melbourne, on 6 December 2014.
