Job Description:

COPPER 360 LTD has a permanent position available for the Safety Officer Mining who will have a legal responsibility as 2.17.1 appointment in terms of the Minerals Act Regulations. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating and conducting safety inspections, incidents/accident investigations, monitoring legal compliance, and implementing safety initiatives in the workplace.

The person will report to the Chief Safety Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Work Responsibilities

• Safety Inspection and Reporting
• Incident/Accident Investigation
• Knowledge of safety systems, mine standards, and procedures
• Safety internal and external audits
• Basic safety administration

Description of Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

• Incident investigation and inquiries
• Accident / Incident reports
• Safety Audit Reports
• Safety and Risk initiatives
• Legal Compliance and audit reports
• Analysis reports
• Accident Control Register
• Take part or lead risk assessments
• Check compliance with safety standards
• Check Corrective actions status

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

• Grade 12 or N3 equivalent
• A Safety Officer’s diploma or equivalent qualification is required
• Comsoc 1 & 2 or SAMTRAC for mining
• COMSOC 3 would be advantageous
• Blasting certificate for underground hard rock
• Computer Literacy
• Valid Drivers License
• Three Years of Relevant Mining Experience with Underground Mining
• Knowledge of the Mine Health and Safety Act (MHSA) and other regulations

Knowledge and Other Skills Required:

• Self-starter with the ability to work independently and drive forward as an active contributor.
• Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Able to work under pressure
