The Value of Cloud DDoS Service

The Value of Cloud DDoS Service

A leading mobile service provider was recently under a DDoS attack that followed a ransom email threat from the alleged “Fancy Lazarus” group. The attack, which lasted for hours and reached ~85Gbps, included vectors such as: DNS Amplification and WS-D Amplification, and overwhelmed one of the service provider’s upstream links. The service provider’s on-premise DefensePro's anti-DDoS appliances were used to fully mitigate the attack until the upstream link was saturated. At that point, leveraging Radware Cloud DDoS Protection Service, they diverted traffic to Radware's scrubbing centers which allowed the attack to be fully mitigated with no service impact.

The attack demonstrates the need of service providers to complement their on-premise DDoS mitigation capacity with a cloud scrubbing service to mitigate peak attacks.
