The Value Working Mothers bring to any Organization

Employees and employers continue to hear “people are your greatest asset.” As an organizational leader, what does that phrase mean to you? As a Career & Personal Development Organization, we believe that working mothers are an organization’s greatest asset that often times becomes unnoticed. Working mothers are often unnoticed and unappreciated because their value hasn’t been identified. However, today marks a new day; a day where your organization can begin to discover the value working mothers bring and place in your organization.

Google defines the word value as “the regard that something is held to deserve; the importance; worth or usefulness of something.” Do you believe that your working mothers are important? Do you believe they have worth? Do you believe they are useful within your organization? Below are examples of the value working mothers bring to your organization:

  • Time management - working mothers are able to manage their time effectively to complete tasks for their employers while also managing their home life (often at the same time, as the pandemic has proven), thus bringing capacity or bandwidth to work on multiple projects at the same time
  • Organization - many working mothers are not able to think clearly and be effective employees in disfunction, thus, they will often times be your most organized employees. And once they have organized their desks, calendar, email, projects, etc…they will begin to lead organization efforts within your organization
  • Problem-solving - oftentimes, working mothers have to quickly resolve challenges that occur amongst their children; likewise bringing their problem-solving skills to the workplace to resolve issues and challenges that arise amongst employees (this is a skill that most employees aren’t able to present effectively), thus creating strong teams.
  • Negotiation - working mothers have to negotiate with their children at various stages of their life to complete household tasks or even homework; likewise, they are able to utilize their non-confrontational voice to negotiate and/or meditate on issues, challenges, and their team members, bringing persistence and adaptability to your organization.
  • People Management - working mothers are able to manage the various personalities of their children; likewise being able to manage the various personalities of employees and colleagues, bringing strong listening and empathy skills to your organization.

The above gives you a few good reasons working mothers bring value to your organization. What can you do next? Take the time during this season to acknowledge the value your working mothers bring and invite them to have a conversation with you on how their value can benefit both the organization and themselves. Allow their value to make history in your organization!
