VIRAL SCIENCE, Our mission is to create and share credible basic science and medical information - DONATE NOW 🙏

I’m doing a seed capital campaign for a new project, Viral Science, LLC. We are MIT COVID-19 Hackathon winners in June 2020 and our mission is to create and share credible basic science and medical information. Please take a look and support our mission to be the cure for misinformation!

VIRAL SCIENCE MISSION

Viral Science, LLC is a collective of scientists, engineers, physicians and tech professionals. We have come together to create and find viral content to dispel misinformation regarding important scientific and medical topics. We are especially concerned with the SARS-CoV2 virus that causes the disease, COVID-19.

At this moment in history, we have observed the alarming and rapid spread of misinformation regarding basic scientific and medical topics related to COVID-19. The World Health Organization (WHO) has recognized this phenomenon as a pandemic in itself, dubbing it, the “Infodemic”.

The Viral Science team finds and creates website content and social media posts focussed on four major themes:

1. COVID-19

2. Social Determinants of Health (SDOH)

3. Drugs & Vaccines (pharmaceutical development/delivery)

4. Global Warming

CORE MISSION

-To be an antidote to misinformation;

-To bring credible scientific and medical data, studies, and analyses to lay people and experts alike;

-To engage people who otherwise would not know where to go to understand scientific and medical topics;

-To help people make personal and family decisions, using complex scientific and medical data made simple.

Our topics within the four thematic areas shift in response to public interest and areas of medicine, science, and engineering where we can impact the Infodemic the most effectively over 3-6 months intervals.

We have teamed up with experts to vet and moderate viralscience.com content for credibility and accuracy. Experts will review, comment, like and approve for publication memes, videos, articles, blog posts, and cartoons or art work via an app that we began to design during the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) COVID-19, Beat The Pandemic 1 Hackathon. Our CEO later refined the app with the guidance of tech mentors to conceptualize a minimally viable product (MVP).

We are in early stage mobile and desktop application development which will include artificial intelligence and machine learning processes to produce a state of the art way to vet and refine information to combat the Infodemic. We plan to launch a beta version of the MVP in the coming months.

VIRAL SCIENCE SEED CAPITAL FUND RAISER GOAL

Our goal is to raise $10,000, or more, to develop our MVP, produce more original content and grow our body of experts and users. Some of our basic expenses are below:

1. Full stack website and mobile/desktop application development and completion $4000 - $6000.

2. Hardware—laptop computers for team members $2500.

3. Research and production of original content $2000.

WHO BENEFITS?

YOU!

We want to help the public sort through confusing messages regarding science, technology, and medicine online and on social media. Now more than ever, people need a community of credible voices to cut through the noise of misinformation. We can fight this Infodemic, one article, meme and video at a time.

Viral Science, LLC has also partnered with Rice Love and Fjallraven to show our appreciation for your support. Watch our GoFundMe, social media and website pages for more updates on giveaway items from these companies in the next few weeks.

VIRAL SCIENCE ORIGINS

We organically formed during the virtual MIT COVID-19, Beat The Pandemic 1 Hackathon in April 2020 with one physician-scientist and several brilliant engineers, designers and business hackers from around the world. The new team maintained our bond with each other and the hackathon community after the competition, working together to leverage the hackathon resources to develop Viral Science further.

We refined our pitch deck, built our our website, recruited new mentors and vendors for services we could not do ourselves and conducted market research on the relevance of our mission. Enthusiastic supporters partnered with us to fight the COVID-19 infodemic by building a fun, apolitical, but informative website and social media presence. Viral Science offers a clarion call to truth in a sea of clambering voices peddling misinformation and confusion.

As a continuing team, Viral Science was one of 4 track winners during the MIT COVID-19 Beat The Pandemic 2 event in June 2020. The small award allowed us to form our LLC, purchase domain names, design and update our logo and website. Now we are producing and finding relevant content.
