We Have to Do Better.

Let's be clear . . .The current Texas (& other states') energy mess was not caused by a failure of technology. This has been a disaster of epic levels & one we created. In law, we call this 'causation'. This crisis can & should be attributed to human failure; A failure to plan; A failure to anticipate; A failure to implement; A failure to allocate/spend on necessary infrastructure and improvements. It's been a failure to act. Perhaps we'll discover that things could and would have been worse but for XYZ [fill in the blank]. I'm sure that'll be the case, as I'm also sure there will be a lot of finger pointing. The truth is the US power grid is generally -- but by no means always -- resilient & reliable. And Texas' ERCOT-managed alternating current (AC) grid (a wide area synchronous grid), even as complex and complicated as it is, has fared very well over the last several years. But in this case, even "very well" is not good enough.

Here are the facts: As a species, we are flawed, but we must do better on all fronts in the future. One life lost is one life too many. Same is true for COVID, particularly since we've figured out ways to stay safe (masks, social distancing, vaccines, etc.).

You get the idea: We need to work harder & make better/smarter decisions. We need to look back, assess, & report. More importantly, we need to look forward and we HAVE to get our sh*t together. #onelifeistoomany
