This was the biggest week for AI in history. Massive developments from OpenAI, Sam Altman, Meta, Amazon, Tesla, Mistral AI, Perplexity, Pika, Windows Copilot, Whoop, The CIA, Google, Zapier, Microsoft, AlphaSense, and Hollywood. Here's EVERYTHING you need to know:

To start things off, OpenAI shook up the world, announcing multimodal capabilities for ChatGPT. The new capabilities allow the chatbot to see (understand images), hear (understand speech), and speak when interacting with users.

OpenAI is in talks with Jony Ive (former iPhone designer) and SoftBank to create the "iPhone of AI.” Longtime friends Sam Altman and Jony Ive are looking to raise $1 billion from Softbank.

Last update of the week from OpenAI includes the return of ChatGPT browsing. The chatbot now regains the ability to access up-to-date information across the internet via integration with Bing search. The feature will even expand to the free tier shortly.

Sam Altman sent the AI community into a frenzy yesterday after posting a (since edited) comment on Reddit that ‘AGI has been achieved internally). A couple hours after this drama — news broke out of OpenAI seeking to raise funds at a $90 Bn valuation.

Meta launches a slew of AI updates. -Meta AI will be put into all products -A new /imagine feature for image creation -Conversational AI characters -An AI studio and more.

Meta also announced a massive collab with Raybans to create smart glasses with Meta AI. -Take photos and 1080p video -Speakers have 50% higher max volume and double the bass. -Come with a built-in Meta AI assistant -Livestreaming to FB/IG. Starting at $299.

Amazon reportedly plans to invest as much as $4 billion for a MINORITY stake in Anthropic. Doubters said AWS was stuck in reactive mode on AI — but backing ChatGPT competitor, Anthropic obliterates that notion. A Amazon is now the newest challenger joining the AI race.

AWS announced a slew of new products and integrations to make generative AI more accessible. The updates include the general availability of its Amazon Bedrock AI service featuring Anthropic's Claude chatbot and Meta's Llama 2 model.

Tesla revealed that Optimus, its humanoid robot, can now sort objects autonomously (and do yoga). It’s highly probable that mainstream media won’t think of Tesla as just a car company in a few years!

French AI startup Mistral has released its first large language model, called 7B, freely for anyone to use and build on via open source license. The startup previously made waves with a record-setting $118M funding round for its mission of "making AI useful" with public data.

Perplexity announces the revamped mobile apps for Perplexity, both on iOS and Android. The mobile apps will no longer lag behind the web. The Perplexity team is a shipping machine.

Pika Labs hopped on the illusion trend this week, adding a new ‘encrypt text’ feature that allows users to embed text subtly within a video. Both Pika Labs and Runway continue to add new features.

Microsoft’s hotly anticipated Windows 11 updates just began rolling out. The new features include its AI ‘Copilot’ assistant and major feature upgrades to core applications.

Fitness tracker Whoop is adding an ‘AI Coach’ feature powered by ChatGPT. The tracker reviews data from the company’s wearables to deliver personalized insights and training plans. The chatbot will provide customized recommendations to optimize performance.

The CIA is reportedly creating its own AI tool in rivalry with China. The ChatGPT-style chatbot will help sift through the avalanche of publicly available data for intelligence clues.

Google caught some flak this week after users found transcripts of chats with its Bard AI indexed in search results. The company said the issue is limited to chats people chose to make public.

Zapier launches Canvas, an AI-powered flowchart tool. The new tool will aim to help its users plan and diagram their business-critical processes.
