What is your leadership style?

There is a distinctive theme in professional life that applies to any field, whether you're a junior, senior, or partner in a company. It doesn't matter if it's your own venture or if you're working towards common goals with a large company. What permeates every process and impacts team performance? The answer lies in leadership.

As early as 2016, Harvard Business Review analyzed four leadership styles.

  1. Pragmatic Leadership: These leaders have a strong focus on achieving results and value effectiveness. They prioritize action and rely on data and facts. However, at times, they may neglect employee well-being and relationship building.
  2. Idealistic Leadership: Idealistic leaders prioritize innovation, creativity, and long-term goals. They excel at articulating a compelling vision that inspires others to work towards it. However, they may struggle to navigate reality and face obstacles in realizing their vision.
  3. Managerial Leadership: These leaders concentrate on creating a positive work environment and fostering a sense of community. Their focus on building relationships and seeking consensus can sometimes hinder quick and effective decision-making.
  4. Diplomatic Leadership: Diplomatic leaders prioritize harmony and consensus-building. They excel at conflict management and finding win-win solutions. However, they often shy away from making firm decisions.

We understand that leaders stand out for their clear and inspiring vision of the future. By setting the course, they can determine how to reach their destination. Coupled with values such as honesty, transparency, and accountability, leaders can confidently develop their own perspectives and understand those of others.

In my personal belief, leaders are characterized by their ability to awaken their own potential and that of those around them. They effectively handle challenging situations while keeping the long-term vision of driving innovation and excellence in mind.

As Lee Iacocca, former CEO of Chrysler, once said, "The speed of the boss is the speed of the team." Leaders who set the pace and inspire their teams to achieve greatness in the fast-paced world of innovation.

No single leadership style is inherently superior to another, whether on the racetrack or in the boardroom. The key lies in striking a balance between different traits, such as determination, strategic thinking, and resilience. This balance allows us to lead our teams towards success, much like the coordinated components of a high-performance engine.

Becoming a leader requires immense passion and dedication. It entails skills, navigating challenging curves and accelerations, and knowing when to strategically pause for refueling and recharging, as Ewy Rosqvist once demonstrated to the world. This Swedish rally driver surpassed gender barriers and achieved sporting results that no woman had ever accomplished at that time. She serves as a inspiration, proving that with courage and skill, anyone can race towards success in the world of excellence.
