During COP26, WWF provides a daily “What’s Hot” newsletter with updates on the negotiations, news, announcements and press conferences.
- The UK presidency’s consultations with heads of delegations on the main COP decisions (1/CP.26, 1/CMA.3, etc.) have been constructive and we’re seeing Parties among both developed and developing countries emphasizing the need to recognize nature, but also signals that others push hard against what they see as a potential “renegotiations of the Paris Agreement” by putting too much emphasis on the 1.5°C goal.
- On common time frames for NDCs, a key ambition issue for WWF, a text with nine options has been forwarded from the subsidiary body for implementation to the presidency for, hopefully, a resolution by ministers next week.
- We’re noting that developing countries have expectations for a common definition of
- climate finance, a potentially big and difficult if not impossible issue to resolve not just at the COP, but in the long term.
- We’re hearing more and more that how to resolve the many linked issues between the enhanced transparency framework and article 6 (markets and non-market approaches) could be a breaking point in this COP.

WWF leaders are on the ground in Glasgow watching everything unfold—here are their reactions to the latest proceedings.
Margaret Kuhlow, WWF Global Lead Finance, said: “There have been some impressive announcements from the finance sector today, not least from the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) whose massive $130+ trillion in assets under management can help deliver the estimated $100 trillion of finance needed to transition to a net-zero emissions global economy over the next three decades.”
- WWF responds to announcement by the governments of the UK, US, Germany, Norway and the Netherlands that at least $1.7 billion of funding will be given directly to Indigenous peoples and local communities.
Fran Price, Lead, WWF Global Forest Practice, said: “It must be followed through by full and effective participation of IPLCs in policy and decision-making processes, including in national climate plans, and direct funding to organizations representing IPLCs.”
- On Friday 5 November, WWF will publish a new report showing how countries are including nature in their updated national climate action plans. There is no viable path to 1.5℃ without action on nature. The report,

- Yesterday the UNEP-led Cool Coalition launched "Beating the Heat: A Sustainable Cooling Handbook for Cities." WWF was engaged in the writing of this report and led the chapter on Urban Nature for Cooling.
- Yesterday, WWF and AB InBev, world’s largest brewer, launched a new report titled Waterways
- to Resilience: Nature-based Solutions for adaptation in Africa highlighting the central importance of NbS to tackling water challenges and building resilience on the continent, while also contributing to a nature-positive future.
- On Energy Day, WWF is launching three language versions of our A Brighter Future research with TNC. Global climate and energy goals can be met without harming communities, sacrificing free flowing rivers to hydropower or driving greater nature loss - thanks to renewable revolution. Countries can develop power grids that are LowCx3 - low cost, low carbon and low conflict with communities, rivers and nature. The microsite is now available in French, Portuguese, Spanish and English.
