When it comes to holidaying in Ireland the options are as diverse as the country's breathtaking landscapes. From picturesque coastal towns to rugged mountain ranges Ireland offers a myriad of destinations that cater to all kinds of travelers.

It is also important that we as Irish Businesses, are aware of where locals choose to holiday. The staycation trend of the pandemic seems to have subsided but it is nevertheless important that we take note of where our locals holiday. An influx of visitors also means that we need to encourage people to book in holidays well in advance.

So, back to where local choose to holiday

While the typical tourist traps can be enjoyable if you're looking for an authentic Irish experience you might wonder where locals choose to spend their holidays within their own beloved country.

County Kerry: 

Situated in the southwest of Ireland, County Kerry is a top holiday destination among the Irish. Its stunning natural beauty including the famous Ring of Kerry attracts visitors from far and wide.

The region boasts dramatic cliffs, pristine lakes and charming towns like Killarney and Dingle providing ample opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling and fishing. The breathtaking landscapes and warm hospitality of the locals make County Kerry a favorite spot for Irish holidaymakers.

Connemara County Galway:

 Located in the west of Ireland Connemara is a rugged and unspoiled region known for its wild beauty. Featuring sweeping mountains, expansive bogs and stunning coastlines it's a haven for nature enthusiasts.

In the southwest of Ireland West Cork has become a beloved holiday spot for many Irish locals. West Cork is known for its rugged coastline, beautiful beaches and picturesque harbors.

County Clare: 

Home to the iconic Cliffs of Moher County Clare has long been a favored holiday destination for the Irish. Apart from the majestic cliffs the county offers a variety of attractions including the unique limestone landscape of the Burren and the traditional music hub of Doolin.

So this week, Gordon Ramsay booked a private tour with Doolin Ferry to take him and his crew to Inis Oírr, the smallest of the Aran Islands to film an upcoming TV programme.

The shoot took place at the site of the Plassey Shipwreck one of the most iconic sites to visit on Inis Oírr.

Gordon Ramsey was very chilled and enjoyed posing for photographs with Liam O'Brien, owner of Doolin Ferry and various members of crew and staff.

He even had a go at the helm and we've a picture of him in the wheelhouse to prove it !

The following day, it was the turn of Jason Byrne, the well-known Irish comedian to travel with Doolin Ferry.

Known as the home of Ireland’s traditional music and folk scene, Doolin is famous for year-round traditional music sessions in its local pubs and more recently, as well as a number of festivals and concerts. The main event in Doolin is the annual Doolin Folk Festival, which is very popular.

The music figures of UK imply almost 270,000 music tourists toured within or to Northern Ireland to listen to live music.

In music tourism, people travel to other cities or towns to watch a performance or a festival.

Last year, big names that played in were Ed Sheeran and Billie Eilish. Also, names like Iron Maiden, Biffy Clyro, Westlife, Little Mix and Sister Sledge played in Northern Ireland in 2022 with huge success.
