Who Is Winning In The Defense Arena?
In my previous blog, I explained why September is a very interesting month for the Defense industry and names such as Lockheed Martin (LMT), Boeing (BA), Northrop Grumman (NOC) and Raytheon (RTX), SpaceX (SPACE), Aerojet (AJRD). Using the TAF Defense Contracts Monitor, I showed that contract awards in September were still down $17 billion compared to last year.

Data updated through the 28th of September and visualized via the TAF Defense Contracts Monitor shows that contract value has increased to $7.6 billion excluding $6.7 billion in framework contracts that are incrementally awarded and funded. The monitor also shows which companies are the beneficiaries of the contract awards. Lockheed Martin is leading the way with 64% followed by Boeing with 15%, Raytheon Technologies with 11%, Northrop Grumman with 7% and the remainder is less than 5%. Interesting to note is that in September 2020, Northrop Grumman accounted for 67% of the contract value as it won a contract valued over $13 billion for the GBSD.

There are still two days left of announcements and we would need to see nearly $14 billion in awards to match the contract values of last year. It’s a long way to get there and it would likely require some multibillion-dollar contract awards.
Who will top the leader board in September and are you expecting any big moves in the final days of the fiscal year for the DoD? Let me know in the comment section what you think.
