Why I Worry About Robots or AI

Here's why I'm concerned about "AI"/Robotics: the loss of jobs. I really like the human interaction when I buy something. I don't want grocery or other cashiers to lose their jobs. I have worked as a cashier. Sometimes, it is the only job available, or you do it for a "season" to help you bridge to the next opportunity. If you take away the human element, how do you deal with a customer service issue with a machine?

AMAZON EXPERIMENT:

Amazon is said to be fine-tuning its cashierless technology to work in larger retail environments. It currently works in a handful of small convenience stores that Amazon operates, but the company is trying to see if it will work for larger spaces, like grocery or big-box stores. There are 3.5 million cashier jobs in the U.S. that could be threatened by this emerging technology.

Something to think about in the rush to get the next "app" that will help you check out quickly.
