Why Recruiting During a Crisis Makes a Whole Lot of Sense

Some companies have completely halted their recruitment efforts during the coronavirus pandemic, while others are moving full steam ahead.

Who do you think will be in better standing, when things begin to normalize?

For sure, it's the team that's keeping up their recruitment effort.

Here's why.

The other day, a colleague told me that he received a call from a recruiter. He was a bit surprised that someone was approaching him about a job, in the middle of a crisis.

The current state of the world didn't stop this person from sourcing talent, and it shouldn't stop you from doing the same.

No doubt, there are many companies who are in full recruitment mode What if your team members are the recipient of their efforts? You may soon have a bunch more job openings than anticipated.

What if you lose a key employee? What impact will this loss have on the company? How long can you go with this position being vacant? Do you have a bunch of job openings that need to be filled?

In a statement from Lockheed Martin Chairman, President and CEO Marillyn Hewson on Covid-19 response, Hewson stated that during this time of economic uncertainty, we will continue our planned recruiting and hiring. Given the requirement for social distancing, Lockheed Martin will deploy virtual technology and other techniques to sustain our hiring activity during this crisis period.

Hewson is doing the absolute right thing by continuing the company's planned recruitment and hiring. She's moving forward at a time, when many are retreating. I can't wait to see what she does next!

What are you doing about recruiting. Are you moving forward? Putting everything on hold? Or retreating? Jot down your status in the comments section, and let's get a discussion going.

Headhunting employees during a crisis will provide staff that leaves a boat crew during a storm. There is a high chance they will leave you on the next storm too.

It is important for recruiters to continue to bring value by talent pipelining, sourcing, etc.   Timing and messaging is key to ensure recruiters are not conflicting with the organizations overall hiring message.
