Why should you think outside the box in hiring Tech talent?
Have you been trying to hire the same profile for a while now?
Nowadays Hiring Managers, Recruiters, you name it, are in this Hunger Games-like chase for the best of the best. A lot of candidates get put off the “traditional” approach of recruiting for a number of reasons, but I don’t want to bore you with these (think slow, long drawn out interview processes etc.).
In order to attract the “best of the best” you need to think outside the box.
So what can you do?
1. Broaden your searches.
By doing this you will be casting your net much wider and opening up the process to people with various different backgrounds. Rather than just focusing on the technical skills become more flexible on the educational background, language requirement (the list goes on...) and you will find some gems!
2. Think about your hiring process.
I find that this topic is the most talked about with among my candidates; you need to find the balance between the process being too short and taking too long because you may risk in losing the candidate. Two stages seems to be the sweet spot for a lot of companies.
3. Get your current employees involved.
Get them to help you write the job descriptions; they might give you a whole different insight into your company and what is important to them. Talking about job descriptions… Have fun with them! Flip them. Start with perks, then what type of profile you require and so on.. Too many job descriptions have the same generic layout nowadays – think outside the box!
4. Diversity
Personally, this one is the most important to me. Diversity boosts creativity. By having a diverse office you bring in people from varying backgrounds, you open up the room for discussions where ideas can flourish.
