Why Tenstreet is Committed to Free Verifications: A Message from Tim Crawford

At Tenstreet, we've always believed in fostering an open and collaborative industry. Our Xchange network has been a cornerstone of this philosophy, providing free verifications to thousands of carriers since 2006. Like you, we've observed a concerning trend: some providers have started charging for verification requests. This shift not only complicates the process but also introduces unnecessary costs, creating a burden that ultimately affects the entire industry.

Why We Stand Against Charging for Verifications

The trucking industry thrives on mutual cooperation, and our Xchange network was designed to be a free resource to support this principle. But when providers charge for verifications, it creates a "tragedy of the commons" scenario. What this means is that as carriers start to pay for verifications, they also start to charge others to recoup their money -- creating a cycle of costs that benefits no one. Our data shows that these reciprocal transactions occur in about 75% of cases. If more carriers charge as a way to recoup their costs, fewer and fewer of those costs get recouped and more and more complexity gets created, hurting both carriers and drivers. Adding the ability to "snooze" requests is a gentle way of showing care for a resource we all share.

Free verifications aim to maintain a fair and efficient process that benefits all carriers and doesn't negatively impact drivers and their families. We have always believed the Xchange network should be available for free -- and that’s why it has been since day one.

Our Suggested Solution

Starting July 29, 2024, we're introducing a new feature to help manage this issue: the "Snooze this Request" button. This tool allows our clients to temporarily delay responding to verification requests, particularly from carriers known to charge for these services. It's a gentle way to highlight the importance of free verifications and encourage others to adopt the same practice.

How Does This Work?

For our clients, this new feature is straightforward. When you receive a verification request from a charging provider, you'll see a prompt to "Snooze this Request." This will temporarily remove the request from your open list, with a clear indication of when the snooze period will end. We've also introduced new visual cues in the system to help you manage these requests more effectively, including color-coded notifications for pending verifications based on their age.

In maintaining the integrity of our Xchange network, we aim to promote a collaborative and cost-effective industry. We believe that by keeping verifications free, we can support a healthier, more sustainable future for everyone involved. Thank you for being part of this journey with us.
