Why VDI Gives Startups a Technology Advantage

The U.S. market is once again harvesting one of the most fertile landscapes for Start Ups since the Great Recession of 2008. Now the major indexes in the stock market are at all-time highs, money is still cheap with the fed funds rate far below 3%, and this year venture capital funding is expected to break its $67 billion record in 2017.

So the question is how can Start Ups take the advantage in a competitive environment? Going IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) is one way Start Ups can allocate valuable capital on the idea that got them there to begin with rather than on IT Infrastructure. The amount of money it takes to buy computers and servers, then to maintain and update that hardware is the expensive way companies normally do their IT. Using VDI (virtual desktop infrastructure) technology dematerializes the hardware while providing your team the support, security, and computing power a Start Up needs to run its business.

Let’s begin with the modern day Start Up where mobility is in their DNA. Whether someone is traveling from San Francisco to New York or London to Paris, a virtual desktop enables you access on any device anywhere in the world to your server and applications as if you’re at the home office. In contrast, outsourcing to a consultant, for example, on the other side of the globe has never been easier. As soon as you authenticate the consultant on your virtual infrastructure, they now have access to a workstation with the applications, storage, files, and computing power you designate. The beauty is they can access this super computer on a puny laptop with miniscule ram and processing power. It’s like driving a Ford Pinto with a Lamborghini Formula One engine under the hood.

In the era of exponential technology where machines and software advance by the hour, staying current is challenging. Most companies spend a gargantuan amount of money and time on their internal IT team to stay above the curve. As a Start Up, partnering with a cloud computing company enables you to delegate hardware refresh, software updates, and firewall security to happen behind the scenes at the data center. Ridding yourself of this burden not only saves you substantial funds, but it also gives you more time to focus on developing your products and services to continue growing your business.
