Women’s History Month 2024: Celebrating Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Every March, Women’s History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements of women throughout history and, at the same time, serves as a reminder of the work still to be done. Despite the progress that has been made, women across the world continue to face systemic barriers and inequalities in various aspects of life including education, employment, healthcare, and so on.

‘Women Who Advocate for Equity, Diversity and Inclusion’ is this year’s Women’s History Month theme. It recognizes women throughout history who have broken down barriers, challenged stereotypes and advanced the cause of equality for women everywhere.

At Evergreen, we are so proud and honored to work with talented female leaders, colleagues and clients. Sydney Hockett , VP at Evergreen, shares her experience and the realities of being a female leader in a male dominated industry:

“By leading authentically as a woman, particularly in male dominated industries, you will be confronted often with others questioning your decision making and judgement. Because of this, you may begin to question yourself and wonder are you making the right move, or are you letting stereotypes get to you? Am I acting too emotionally or not being ruthless enough? What would my male counterpart do? These are normal questions to ask yourself, but listening to them at the expense of being authentically yourself is detrimental.

Being an authentic female leader is a strength and it should be used as such. An important part of my leadership journey was acknowledging that, because I am a woman I will lead differently than my male counterparts and accepting that took me much farther than pretending to conform to something I am not. Being authentically yourself and embracing the uniqueness of being a woman in a male dominated field is a conscious choice and one that can completely transform your narrative.

Most importantly, always be proud of yourself because of what you bring to the table as a woman and remember, you can’t always change the narrative, but you can pick your place in it.”

This Women's History Month, we invite you to join us in celebrating the remarkable achievements, resilience, and advocacy of women who have paved the way for progress and growth, especially those in the technology industry.

At Evergreen, we are honored to join the global community in commemorating Women's History Month, a time dedicated to honoring the extraordinary contributions, resilience, and advocacy of women throughout history.
