WORK FROM HOME

WORK FROM HOME

None of us thought of our 2020 to go this way. But not everything is supposed to go as per the plans and expectation. I guess that is what life is all about. So in this time period when almost 75% of the world is effected by this novel disease “Corona-virus disease (Covid-19)”, distance is the new way to stay united at this time period. Most of the countries around the world are announcing to lock-down till the condition comes under control.

Business around the world have announced work from home. And we are panicking, and being stressed to maintain the same productivity as it was at workplace. Covid-19 came up with its own pros and cons, and it’s upon us how we take it. As far as the work from home is concerned, several measures could be taken under consideration to make it effective, productive, and fun. Let’s use this extra time we have now towards being more productive and make the most out of this ‘work from home’ situation.

1.      Select a place at your home to work: This is the easiest yet most difficult thing to do. Since in quarantined everyone is home and there’s an environment of gossips, fun, laughs, and fights. So select a place from where you cannot see or hear anyone. It could be anywhere (except for the beds and those cozy couches), in case if you’re too focused these wouldn’t be an issue for you. The least of the distracted place is your target to set your work station. Also inform your family beforehand about your work timings and that to lower down their volume and intervention for the particular time period. Limit all social activities only up to the break times.

2.      Maintain a schedule and time your tasks: No team meeting could ever make you motivated enough to complete your work timely and maintaining productivity. Not having to sign into office doesn’t mean you should not set strict schedules. So all you have to do is to set tasks on your priority list, plan and make a to-do list to have a check on your own-self. Give each task an appropriate time and set up alarms to complete them on time. You can even use a planner for that.

3.      Set your own breaks and rewards: Work from home gives you the authority of a boss to take as many breaks as you want (keeping in mind not to decrease your work-moto, but to freshen-up). You can even take power-naps if exhausted. That’s the beauty of work from home. All you’re supposed to do is to complete the targets on time. You can even reward yourself with music, scroll on social media, or a lot of food (snacks, drinks, or chocolates) after the completion of the tasks.

4.      Group-Chats: Make a group apart from the official one, with the people you get along well at your work place. A random text or a bit of chitchat would work for you in being associated with them. Team leads could even make the group with all the team members, and you know the best thing is that you’re not bound to respond there formally. Have fun, take a chill, and this would not just refresh you but will also make the team know each other and strengthen the bond between everyone.

5.      Dress-up: Work from home doesn’t mean you won’t take shower or dress up properly. First thing in morning should be a shower because obviously it’s the best thing to awaken you properly. Don’t work in your PJ’s if it makes you cozy. There is a saying “dress for success”. Beyond getting you psychologically in the right mindset for work, you’ll be ready to handle any video-chat or check-in with a teammate. Stay clean and hydrated and make the most out of this work from home.

So, let's all unite and make the most out of this work from home. This is the first step towards a huge change that is going to appear in near future. The time for IT industry to flourish, increasing the chances of online education, remote working, and alot of good things are about to happen. it is all in our hands how we take it. There is a saying, 'The art of life lies in a constant readjustment to our surroundings'. So accept, readjust, and enjoy this time period.
